History

Although there are doubts regarding the dating of some elements of the site, we know that the culminating stage of the town occurred in times of the Punic expansion. But the place was inhabited much earlier. The oldest dating, carried out with carbon 14 in the West Talayot, annexed to the "taula", corresponds to the thirteenth century B.C. However, the "Taula" enclosure was used as a sanctuary from the fourth century BC. In short, the useful life of the Torralba de Salort site includes from the beginning of the Bronze Age to medieval times, through the Iron Age and Romanization.

Archeology

The Torralba D’As Salort site is one of the most appreciated and studied by archaeologists in Menorca. William Waldren and Manuel Fernández-Miranda team made important excavations in the same during the seventies of the twentieth century, especially in the "Taula" enclosure and in the Annex (West) Talayot. Among the findings made include the statuette of a bronze bull (which is currently exhibited in the Museca Museum) and two terracotta figures representing the goddess Tanit. Other interesting pieces discovered in Torralba d´en Salort are three legs of a bronze horse, located on a small stone altar, as well as remains of prehistoric, Punic and Roman ceramics. The main talayot (east) has begun to excavate recently.
