The La Mola Fortress, also known as Fortress of Isabel II, it stands majestically in the homonymous peninsula to the East of Menorca. Built between 1848 and 1875, this imposing structure was designed to protect the island from possible British invasions. With its ten fronts divided into land and maritime defense, Mola is a testimony of military engineering of the nineteenth century. The land defense was of special importance, relying on the natural cliffs of the Peninsula for maritime protection.
During its construction, La Mola faced technological challenges that led to a second phase of modernization in 1896, adapting to advances in artillery. Fortunately, it was never attacked and today remains in excellent condition, allowing visitors to explore a vital piece of Menorcan history.
